What do you see when you look out your window?

What do I see when I look out my window?

I see life
a lemon tree alive…
offering year-round fruit…
only to watch its gifts return
to earth… unsavored

I see love
in the squirrel who works all day…
pawing at our grass and dirt…
to find I don’t know what…
to feed its babies

I see houses
just like mine…
writing their private histories
in the lives of strangers
who wave on passing… to be nice

What do you see when you look out your window?
